Awakening the Subtle Body

  • Rainforest Yoga 171 Shattuck Way Juneau, AK, 99801 United States (map)

In the ancient yogic understanding, the body is a landscape of subtle energetic channels, rivers, and chakras through which our life force flows. This four-session workshop series weaves the structural aspects of asana practice with the energetic, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of yoga to tap into the true healing power of practice.

Pelvis: The Source of Vitality | Friday: 5-7pm
By tonifying the pelvic floor and hip joints through somatic movement, asana, and breath awareness, we will increase the flow of vital fluids through the pelvic region and support freedom and vitality upward through the spine.

Spine: The Central Channel | Saturday 9:30am-12pm
In yogic subtle body anatomy, the central channel, or susumnā, is the pathway for the movement of our deep life force. Our practice will strengthen and relieve compression and imbalance around the spine, while gathering awareness into our center.

Deep Belly: The Source of Intuition | Saturday 3-5:30pm
The deep belly is the source of intuitive knowing, below the radar of the cognitive mind. This session will strengthen and deeply release tension in the abdominals, psoas, and organs and explore intuition.

Lungs, Diaphragm, and the Boundless Heart | Sunday 9:30am-12pm
This session will release the diaphragm, strengthen the shoulders, and expand the upper chest through asana and pranayama, and offer Dharma and meditation to cultivate the “boundless” qualities of the heart.

*Each session includes somatic movement, asana, pranayama, and meditation.
